About Us

CLUSTER 55°

IT is everywhere. It is used everyday around the world, it is one of the main factors in the ever-changing world and one of the main reasons the world keeps getting smaller. It makes it impossible to draw the lines in what is included in within the IT sector when including all cross sectors.

To be and remain competitive on a global level when coming from a small region it is important to work together. We are located in a globally strong region. The Öresund region is the fastest growing IT region in Europe and one of the most innovative regions.  At Cluster 55° our mission is to make sure we maintain this position.

How do we do that?
At Cluster 55° we have more than 10 years of experience in cluster management, based on the former cluster Øresund IT, founded in 1999.  We have built up a regional and international network and experience that we share with our members. With collaborations across boarders – as well industry sectors as geographical – we help you expand your business.

We specialize within internationalization, match-making and fundraising. As a part of Lund University we act as a bridge between businesses and academia. We operate as an open arena for innovations within IT and its cross areas. Our belief is that through working in a structured way with continuous change within and across sectors we will maintain our position as the leading IT cluster in Europe.

Our Supporters

Lund University

Cluster 55 is a part of Lund University as internal department working in a tripple helix environment under a seperate brand, Cluster 55. Lund University is a National Public Authority in Sweden.

Founded in 1666, Lund University is today one of the largest, oldest and broadest universities in Scandinavia and is consistently ranked among the world’s top 100 universities. Lund University has an excellent academic reputation with a large number of visiting professors and international students.

With eight faculties, the University’s activities cover education and research in engineering, science, law, social sciences, economics, medicine, humanities, theology, fine arts, music and drama.

Around 47 000 students study at the University, which has some 6 300 employees. The majority of the University’s activities are in Lund, but a number of education and research departments are based in Malmö. The University also has a growing campus in Helsingborg and a School of Aviation in Ljungbyhed.

The University has some 30 world-leading research environments. This, together with increased direct funding from the Swedish Government, allocated on the basis of competition and quality, makes Lund University one of Sweden’s strongest research universities.

Lund University is in many respects Sweden’s most international higher education institution and has close cooperation and exchange agreements with a large number of universities around the world. In addition, Lund University is a member of the prestigious research-intensive university networks Universitas 21 and theLeague of European Research Universities (LERU).

The University is an important force in the expansive Öresund region, not least since two of Europe’s largest research facilities, Max IV and ESS, will be built in Lund within the next ten years.

The City of Malmö

Malmö is the commercial centre of southern Sweden and an international city. This is expressed, not least, by the fact that Malmö has 300 000 residents from approximately 170 different nationalities.

Malmö is also undergoing a transition from being an industrial city to a city of knowledge. Older industries have been replaced by investments in new technology and training programmes of high calibre. Malmö University, which opened in 1998, is Sweden’s latest venture in the field of higher education, accommodating some 15.000 students.

Malmö Trade and Industry Agency is the City of Malmö’s department that provides help and advice, free of charge, to companies looking to establish, expand or relocate their businesses in the Malmö area. We offer advice on business related issues. Our goal is to give you the best possible guidance to ensure success for your business in our region.

The City of Lund

In Lund there is a spirit of learning more, achieving more, and making the future brighter yet. As a result of this, we call Lund the City of Ideas. Another result of this spirit is the vast number of inventions over the years. Did you know that the following things all come from Lund originally? The turbohaler, the dialyser, the mobile phone, the use of ultrasound in medicine, the tetra-pak milk carton, the ink-jet printer, the first machine for artificial respiration: the barospirator, the fingerprint reader, and many others.

Some of the internationally well-known companies are Tetra Pak, Alfa Laval, Sony Ericsson, ST Ericsson, and Gambro.

The Lund trade and industry agency is your entry to the city of Lund when you want to establish your business here.

Vinnova – Swedens Innovation Agency

VINNOVA, the Swedish Governmental Agency for Innovation Systems, invests in research and strengthens Sweden’s innovative capacity for competitiveness, sustainable development and growth.

VINNOVA’s efforts range from programmes for R&D projects in small companies and at universities, to long-term development of strong research and innovation environments that attract R&D investment and expertise from around the world.

Our efforts are based on cooperation and co-financing with industry, academia and the public sector.

Tillväxtverket – The Swedish Agency for Economic & Regional growth

The aim of the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth — Tillväxtverket — is to work pro-actively for sustainable growth — a public strategy to ensure that investments for growth will also make growth possible for coming generations.

The role of the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth is to strengthen regional development and facilitate enterprise and entrepreneur-ship throughout Sweden. These are major challenges in the new international business landscape that is now emerging. We have taken them on and formulated a vision:

Sweden, a model for enterprise with sustainable growth.

Attaining this vision will require drive and determination. Together, we must choose a path that leads to more and growing companies. A path that leads to a Sweden where successfully starting and running a company is simple — in all parts of the country.

Eures Crossborder

The European network EURES (EURopean Employment Services) is a cooperation network between the Public Employment Services of the EEA Member states. The EURES portal offers job seekers access to most of the vacancies which are mediated by the EU Member States employment services. The EURopean Employment Services (EURES) operates on a transnational and cross-border basis. There are currently 20 EURES Partnerships operating in cross-border regions which exist as integral parts of the entire EURES network.

Øresundskommiteen

The Öresund Committee has been the official platform for regional political cooperation between Skåne (Sweden) and Zealand (Denmark) since 1993. The committee is a political interest organisation and a lobbying organisation that strengthens regional cross-border cooperation and defends the interests of the Öresund Region before the national parliaments of Sweden and Denmark, the Riksdag and the Folketing respectively, and also before the EU in Brussels.

Pegase

The European Global navigation Satellite systems Agency (GSA) has launched a Coordination and Support Action called PEGASE. The objective of the PEGASE project is to collect information on GNSS-related national, regional and local Galileo/EGNOS-related initiatives. The PEGASE web portal presents the initiatives grouped into four main themes (Testing & Simulation, Support to Innovation, Specialized Investors Fora and Education programmes).
